Errance.

Errance is the French word for wandering.

A way of moving slowly, guided by curiosity and attention rather than a fixed destination.

Errance is a design studio that creates functional sculptures. Pieces designed to inhabit a space gently, inviting contemplation and a fostering a more mindful relationship with the objects we live with.

Each piece is made to order locally in France, with careful attention to process and materials. The focus is not only on function, but on presence. On creating objects that linger in a space, and in daily life, forming quiet emotional connections over time.

WHO.

Sarah Iannarella is a multidisciplinary designer and art director based in Lille, France.

Initially trained in graphic design, she later completed a Master of Arts at the University of the Arts London (UAL), where her research explored the dialogue between emerging technologies and traditional craftsmanship.

Rooted in two-dimensional composition, her work gradually expanded into volume. Lines become structures, typographic gestures acquire weight, and graphic balance transforms into spatial presence. This transition led to the creation of Errance, through which she develops interior pieces conceived as functional sculptures.

Her aesthetic language navigates between nature, science fiction, Mediterranean culture, Art Nouveau, and Brutalism. Organic growth and technological precision coexist, shaping a hybrid visual identity where past and future remain in conversation.

Each piece reflects an attention to origin, process, and duration. Favoring proximity of production, thoughtful material choices, and a measured approach to making.

CRAFTMANSHIP AND
NEW TECHNOLOGIES.

Our brand embraces an eco-friendly approach by prioritizing environmentally conscious materials such as Jesmonite, an innovative and durable composite that serves as an eco-friendly alternative to resin and concrete, recycled PETG, and PLA, a biodegradable bioplastic.

3D printing is a core part of our ecological strategy and offers a significant advantage. It optimizes material use while generating nearly zero waste.

This technology also provides the flexibility to design innovative, modular molds with interchangeable parts, greatly reducing the need for silicone and helping to minimize the ecological impact of our production.

Additionally, we are developing a fully natural dyeing technique using plants. These plant-based colors, derived directly from materials such as logwood, fern, or turmeric, allow us to create unique and authentic hues without any solvents or artificial dyes.

SLOW DESIGN.

Rooted in the principles of slow design, our studio based in Lille prioritizes thoughtful and artisanal creation. Each piece, made to order or in small batches, is designed to last and forge an emotional connection with its user, standing in stark contrast to the frantic pace of fast furnishing.

Slow design is also about a return to common sense: consuming less but better, supporting independent creators rather than distant mass industries. It’s a way to rediscover the beauty of uniqueness and embrace a more sustainable way of living.
